The AIIMSEI Junior Fellows Program is a leadership formation initiative that prepares emerging thought leaders to have impact on complex challenges regardless of background/training/discipline/experience--leaders do not just participate in the future, they define it.

Purposed on Sustainability, Commerce, Community, and Health, the program comprises Eight Pillars of Performance that establishes competencies that inform your leadership in the Convergence Studio. (Figure)

The Eight Pillars of Performance are the foundational elements of the AIIMSEI Junior Fellows Leadership Formation Program. Together, they provide a comprehensive framework for developing the knowledge, skills, mindset, and professional character required to lead in an era where society's most pressing challenges demand convergence across disciplines, sectors, and cultures.

Each pillar represents a core competency essential to becoming an effective convergent leader. Through a sequence of interactive mentoring sessions, reflective exercises, and practical applications, Fellows progressively strengthen these competencies while applying them to their year-long Capstone Convergence Studio. Rather than existing as independent topics, the pillars are intentionally interconnected, with each reinforcing and extending the others to create a coherent leadership formation experience.

Collectively, the Eight Pillars prepare Fellows not simply to excel within their chosen disciplines, but to integrate diverse perspectives, inspire collaboration, translate ideas into action, and create meaningful, measurable, and sustainable impact.

 Junior Fellows participate in individualized and small-group coaching sessions focused on:

• Scientific communication and scholarly writing, including abstracts, presentations,      scientific articles and grants
• Experience design, including adapting to audience needs and motivations.
• Building a professional convergent experience portfolio
• Strategies for      obtaining external funding, including grantsmanship, proposal development      and fellowship/scholarship applications

Fellows develop the professional communication, scholarly writing, and grantsmanship skills necessary to articulate compelling convergent ideas, secure resources, and communicate with diverse audiences. These competencies are applied throughout the Convergence Studio and are demonstrated in the Challenge Brief, Innovation Concept Package, Impact Plan, conference abstract, funding proposal, and final Convergence Portfolio.

Junior Fellows participate in a structured innovation curriculum introducing:

• Design thinking
• Human-centered innovation
• Needs identification
• Technology assessment
• Intellectual property fundamentals
• Regulatory science
• Business model development
• Venture creation and commercialization

Fellows learn to transform unmet societal needs into innovative, feasible, and sustainable solutions through design thinking, entrepreneurship, and translational innovation. These competencies are exercised primarily during Solution Development and Impact and Translation, culminating in the Innovation Concept Package and Impact Plan.

Monthly Convergence Conversations expose Junior Fellows to internationally recognized leaders from academia, industry, government, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.

Topics include:

• Convergent research
• Artificial intelligence and digital health
• Sustainability and climate resilience
• Biomedical innovation
• Leadership and ethics
• Global health
• Translational science and engineering
• Emerging technologies

Fellows broaden their intellectual horizons by engaging internationally recognized leaders whose diverse experiences enrich their understanding of convergence, leadership, and emerging opportunities. Insights gained from these interactions inform every stage of the Convergence Studio and are reflected in the Fellow's evolving Challenge Brief, Convergence Map, and Leadership Reflection.

Individual mentoring supports Junior Fellows in selecting graduate, professional, and entrepreneurial pathways aligned with their aspirations.

Guidance includes:

• MD, PhD, ScD, DVM, JD, MPH, and MBA pathways
• Fellowship opportunities
• International study and research experiences
• Career planning and professional networking

Fellows develop a personalized strategy for graduate education, professional advancement, and lifelong leadership aligned with their aspirations and strengths. Reflection on these experiences culminates during the Leadership Phase and is documented in the Professional Development Plan, Leadership Reflection, and Future Development Roadmap.

Fellows develop the collaborative leadership, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills required to guide interdisciplinary teams addressing complex societal challenges. These competencies are practiced throughout the Convergence Studio and demonstrated through team interactions, stakeholder engagement, and the final public presentation at the Great Connections Gathering.

Each Junior Fellow completes a community-engagement experience that applies scientific and technical knowledge to address a local challenge.

Fellows learn to ensure that innovation remains grounded in societal needs through meaningful community engagement and stakeholder partnership. These experiences directly inform the Impact and Translation phase and are demonstrated in the Impact Plan, stakeholder engagement strategy, and Community Impact assessment.

Fellows cultivate the global perspective, cultural competence, and international networks necessary to address challenges that transcend national and disciplinary boundaries. These experiences enrich every phase of the Convergence Studio and are ultimately reflected in solutions designed for broad societal relevance and scalability.

Each year Jr. Fellows participate in a capstone challenge, The Convergence Studio, in which interdisciplinary teams propose solutions to a major societal problem. Here the Framework is set and within The Convergence Studio the Grand Challenge is navigated.

• Societal impact

Fellows synthesize the competencies developed across the preceding seven pillars to frame, investigate, and address a Grand Challenge using Convergence Thinking. This integration is demonstrated through successful completion of the Convergence Studio and presentation of the complete Convergence Portfolio at the Great Connections Gathering.
